Services - Dispute Resolution

A 'guaranteed' rising dampness treatment presented mould growth and dampness. Was this a failure of the damp-proofing or a condensation problem? Testing showed a combination of both and the contractor carried out works under guarantee.   After major refurbishment Dampness appeared in treated areas and a dispute followed. Unfortunately an electrician had chased out the plaster for conduits and replaced the sand and cement with inappropriate bonding plaster causing this problem.

Another major re-furbishment, unfortunately the height of replastering was insufficient and the junction of old/new became damp by absorption of salts. The contractor resolved the dispute by repairing the defect.   A new extension, partly below ground. On completion the floors became wet and after opening-up the cause of water penetration was revealed-: defective membrane work. The main contractor accepted liability and agreed to correct the defect.
