Services - Water Ingress Below Ground

Brickwork in an under pavement vault which was allowing water seepage through the structure and required extensive waterproofing works. A specification sympathetic to the structure was designed.   Upon completion of a waterproofing scheme severe water ingress was noted at the wall/floor junction. The specification for works was checked with the work carried out on site and an inherent weakness was found at the wall/floor junction.

After completion of a refurbishment the floor screeds were seen to become wet. Investigation revealed a major ground water problem with up to two litres per minute of water passing through weep holes. A leaking water main was the source of the problem.   After extensive water-proofing works were undertaken a wood strip floor warped. Investigation revealed extensive water on the surface of the floor membrane. The original waterproofing was effective and a plumbing leak was identified!
