Case Histories - Dry Rot
 
The first indication of a problem, a fungal body and a cracked skirting with an overpowering smell of mushrooms. Externally a gutter had been leaking allowing water ingress into the building.   The carpet was removed and it became clear that fungal mycelium was present affecting the carpet underlay and below.

Removal of the underlay, hardboard and finally floorboards revealed the full extent of a virulent Dry Rot outbreak (Serpula lacrymans)   The reverse side of a floorboard showing the characteristic fluffy white mycelium and the tinges of yellow. The timber is showing evidence of characteristic cuboidal cracking a full specification for eradication works was then provided.
