Case Histories - Woolwich Royal Arsenal
 
The Arsenal is a collection of buildings dating from the early 18th Century which have been recently refurbished.   A combination of Wet Rot and Beetle infestation seen in a wall plate. Removal and bricking up the void was the only option.

Taking core samples, the true extent of decay within embedded timbers could be established enabling a sophisticated specification to be provided allowing minimal treatment and maximum retention of original timbers.   Detail of a wall plate affected by Death Watch Beetle (Xestobium rufovillosum) common in the sapwood and heartwood of partially decayed hardwoods chiefly oak and hence common in many period buildings.
